Nicola’s Story

Busy mum and fertility coach Nicola came to us in May 2018. Nicola says, “I’ve had so many benefits from CrossFit! It’s the first time I’ve ever consistently exercised in my life after compulsory gym at high school.  My periods went from 100+ days to 31-45 day cycles.  My mood is more consistent on a daily basis and I’ve seen so many improvements in the capability of my body.  When I first started, I couldn’t run for 5 minutes.  Now I can run for 20 minutes, deadlift over 100KG and I feel so much stronger.”

In October 2018, Nicola repeated our “baseline” workout –  a 500m row, 40 Air Squats, 30 Sit-Ups, 20 Push-Ups and 10 Pull-Ups.  As with many of our athletes, some movements were scaled to match her ability.  When she first did baseline in May it took her 11 minutes and 3 seconds.  After 5 months of CrossFit 3 times a week she completed Baseline in 6 minutes and 58 seconds.

The results speak for themselves but Nicola also says, “I never thought I would be someone who enjoyed exercise.  I just didn’t think it was my thing and that at 33 it was never meant to be.  Now I move my body nearly every single day and I love it.  it makes me feel more energised and so much more capable chasing after my two young boys.  I no longer see exercise as a punishment, but as a way to prioritise my own health and wellbeing alongside work and a busy family life.”

Nicola continues: “I love CrossFit 2012 because I felt welcome from day one.  I wasn’t shamed or made to feel like I wasn’t good enough or fit enough. I just turn up and do the work alongside my friends.  I’m definitely obsessed!”
